The Classics: Close And Easy
Durrës Beach
The city beach is 10 to 15 minutes from the resort and runs for several kilometres of shallow, warm water - ideal with small children. Expect sunbeds, beach bars and a lively promenade in July and August. Go early in the morning for a calm swim before the crowds arrive.
Golem Beach
Just south of Durrës, Golem offers the same soft sand with a slightly quieter feel and a long line of beachfront cafes. It is an easy afternoon trip when you want lunch with your feet in the sand.
Worth The Drive: Coves And Clear Water
Kallmi Beach
About 20 minutes north on the Rodon peninsula road, Kallmi is a string of small pebble-and-sand coves backed by olive groves. The water here is noticeably clearer than the city beach, and a couple of family-run restaurants grill the day's catch. Our most recommended half-day trip.
Cape of Rodon
Around 45 minutes from the villa, the cape combines a swim with a walk to the 15th-century Skanderbeg castle ruins right on the headland. Bring water shoes for the pebbles and stay for sunset - it is the best one on this stretch of coast.
Lalzit Bay
A wide, quiet bay of fine sand about 30 minutes north, popular with families who want space. Pine trees give natural shade at the back of the beach, which is rare here.
When To Go
June and September are the sweet spot: sea temperatures around 24 to 26 degrees, warm evenings and far fewer people. July and August bring the full summer atmosphere - book restaurants ahead and hit the beaches before 10am or after 4pm.
